Updated Laundry Closet

Yes! This beauty is the "after" shot of my new and improved laundry closet. I opened the laundry closet doors and what seemed like an all-of-a-sudden feeling of distaste filled my soul. I got tired of reaching up on my tippy toes to reach the detergent on those wire shelves that contractors install in most newly built homes. There just wasn't enough functional space for all the household cleaners and spray bottles, light bulbs, etc. The inside of the laundry closet wasn't giving great aesthetic pleasure because it was just plain ugly! Just so happen my husband was out in Texas speaking on a Gospel meeting when this feeling came across me. I was surfing YouTube and saw a video of a woman making over her laundry closet. I got inspired and made a list of what I needed from Home Depot; Sunday evening I purchased all the supplies for my next project. I already had the green and gray paint on hand, as well as the stencil that was tucked away in one of my craft containers.

After homeschool, I worked. After dinner, I worked. I took the kids to the park, and afterward, I worked. This was my first project like this one -- making floating shelves. All things considered, this project went smoothly. The part that took the most time was staining the wood; the product needs 24 hours to dry before a second coat can be applied. Since I applied two coats of stain, I had to wait another 24 hours before I could apply polyurethane. In total, it took 2.5 days to complete. The part I was looking forward to the most was shopping for new storage baskets that I would neatly and strategically place on the shelves. These baskets now serve as new homes for the household cleaners, lightbulbs, etc. Most noticeably, they are unseen and present a clean, well organized look and feel. My husband was thoroughly impressed when he arrived back home. I was now inspired to make him a coffee space using floating shelves. This is one of the many projects that made the house feel like our home. That being said, stayed tuned for the next post on turning empty space into a functional one.
